Just got this from my e-mail--

The jacket copy for Chaos Walking Book 2: The Ask and the Answer

Fleeing before a relentless army, Todd has carried a desperately wounded
Viola right into the hands of their worst enemy, Mayor Prentiss.

Immediately separated from Viola and imprisoned, Todd is forced to learn the
ways of the Mayor's new order.

But what secrets are hiding just outside of town? And where is Viola? Is she
even still alive? And who are the mysterious Answer?

And then, one day, the bombs begin to explode. . . .

The second thrilling volume in the Chaos Walking trilogy, The Ask and the
Answer is a tense, shocking, and deeply moving novel about resistance under
the most extreme pressure.

I really enjoyed your comments. I too can't wait for the second book. It is unclear to me whether the first line is communicating the passage of time. I think killing the horse would be a bit much...and I do find myself hoping that horse noise is as funny as dog noise.

Sorry your friend didn't enjoy the book. I have discussed it with many of my online friends, and while some love it, some don't.

yeh i agree if the thing that happened to manchee happens to the horse he may get sued for screwing up teens brains and making them cry. can't wait for the book although the first line is a little disappointing. The first line obviously shows that the second book does not instantly follow on from book one but shows that some time has passed between the end of book one and the beginning of book 2. I guess that's unavoidable. You can't have all the suspense at the beginning of the story now can you?

I seriously don't get why this book isn't more well known as it is, it's so good!!! Although my best friend read it and hated it ... Oh well at least Patrick Ness got some money out of her. He deserves it for writing an awesome book.

Ok. About the horse. If the horse suffers the same fate as Manchee I won't be able to deal with it. Seriously. I'm hoping for resurrection to be a theme in the second book...really.
